St Martin’s Holiday House for 8
St Martin's is a warm and spacious holiday home in Shanklin Old Village, IOW, and is ideal for three generations and your dog. It is one of two detached houses built in 1998 in the grounds of Westhill Manor, once the haunt of the Kray brothers!
St Martin’s is a bright, sunny, central heated modern holiday house, extensively equipped with all comforts, including a travel cot, a high chair and loads of books and jigsaws.
Upstairs it has four bedrooms - the Cricket bedroom has twin beds with adjoining shower room; the East bedroom has a double bed and adjoining shower room; the Garden View bedroom has a double bed; and the fourth has bunk beds. We provide duvets and pillows; please bring your own linen and towels. There is a large family bathroom with both shower and bath. The biggest bedroom has pretty views over the cricket pitch to Shanklin Down and St Martin’s Down beyond.
A striking staircase descends to the spacious hall. Off this is a small room which we use as a children’s playroom. The large living room has a sitting area with tv at one end and a substantial pine dining table seating eight and a high chair at the other.
The kitchen is compact (ie not big enough to eat in), well equipped with range cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, washing machine, dryer, wok, saucepans, china, cutlery etc. There is also a downstairs cloakroom.
Outside is a paved courtyard garden, surrounded by mature coloured shrubs, and also made interesting by the old garden wall remaining from the Manor. We have a seat in the arbour and there are a garden table and chairs and a barbecue. The garden is reasonably dog and child proof (whether you want to keep them in or out!). There is a further terrace on the east side of the house - A good spot for breakfast on those sunny mornings.
The holiday house in Shanklin has a secure garage where you will find an assortment of beach equipment, bicycles, a stroller, a baby bath, a dog basket, barbecue fuel, deck chairs for the garden, a coatrail to hang wet coats if you have been on a wet hike and also another fridge with a freezer. There is plenty of space for your golf clubs and bicycles in the garage. On the driveway there is space to park three cars.
